Lisa Francesca Rail is a Phd candidate in social and cultural anthropology at the University of Vienna and works on contemporary alpine pasture commons in Austria and on property theories. She previously conducted research on the same topics in Kyrgyzstan and spent several summers herding and dairying for pasture collectives in Austria and Switzerland.
Abstract:
The talk will be about the topic and main argument of my PhD thesis for with I did ethnographic fieldwork on pasture commons in two regions of Austria. I want to show the diversity of legal forms the commons take today, what they have in commons nonetheless, and how their contemporary legal form shapes the boundaries of the commons and how commoners can mitigate changes in the value of their common goods.
